Disney's 'Aladdin' Trailer is What Nightmares are Made Of
by Damian Battinelli
Disney released the trailer for their new live-action version of Aladdin and it’s everything nightmares are made of.
Will Smith plays the part of Genie and from the look of it, Disney’s CGI department dropped the ball. Smith looks like a blend of Shrek and a Smurf — and not the cute kind. I swear I once saw him under my bed as a child!
Disney’s live-action versions of their classics has always brought mixed reactions. Many moviegoers feel the classics should be untouched. I mean, classics are classics for a reason, right? Why would Disney want to risk the chance of completely flopping in the box office with a reboot? Well, because we’re buying tickets.
I can imagine it’s because we love to see if one of the classics could be one-upped. Can you imagine if Pinocchio goes live-action and it blew the original away like it never existed? Jiminy Cricket!
On the other-hand, isn’t it entertaining to share your opinion on a movie that sucked? It’s human. Take car crashes for instance. Rubbernecking is a term for a reason. Why are we so drawn to the misfortunes of others? Probably because it makes us feel better about ourselves. We’d like to protect our wonderful childhood memories of these masterpieces so if we can tear these reboots down, then we’ve succeeded in conserving our memories. Right?
My opinion of course. What’s yours?
